The Biesbosch

If you visit the Breda region, you really shouldn't miss De Biesbosch. The freshwater tidal area of De Biesbosch is a rare phenomenon. You can actually experience ebb and flow there. But that's not all: the area is stunning for boating. The combination of expansive views on the horizon, beautiful flora and fauna, and so much space for recreation is unmatched anywhere else.

The rugged nature of this swamp is best experienced from the water, in a small boat or even in a canoe. Silent paddling through the narrowest creeks, ducking under low branches. And perhaps the beaver will make an appearance...

Breda canal route

With a sloop, you can explore Breda in a different way. A lovely day trip along the canals all the way to Ginneken. A stop in the harbour for a snack on one of the terraces is highly recommended!

The harbour was originally a section of the River Mark. It had an open connection to the sea in the Middle Ages, and sea fish was traded in Breda. The harbour was filled in from the 1960s onwards, but it reopened in 2007. Boats can moor at the new low quay. View the entire sailing route here.
