Blooming Walking Adventures: Discover Breda’s Bulb Fields on Foot

Oh, how happy all the cheerful bulb fields in Breda make us! Scattered throughout Breda, you’ll find several flower bulb fields that are currently in full bloom! Time for a stroll: this walking route takes you past a number of the bulb fields. Don’t forget to bring your camera, because you can take some beautiful photos for Instagram here!

There’s good news, because over the coming years, around 2,000 m2 of new bulbs will be planted every year. While one type of flower will have finished blooming after a few weeks, mixing early and late bloomers significantly extends the flowering period of the flowerbed. The early bloomers were already flowering in February, but the other varieties remain in bloom until May. Would you like to know more about the bulb fields in Breda? Walking route length: 4.3 kilometres

Valkenberg Park

Start in Park Valkenberg. At the park exit on Catharinastraat, you’ll find the orange Princess Irene Tulip on the left. Throughout the park, you’ll find beautiful tulips here and there. Be sure to also visit the Nassau Barony Monument

Mauritsstraat

Next, walk via Catharinastraat towards Vlaszak along Boschstraat. Then cross diagonally towards Mauritsstraat. A sea of flowers beams towards you! This may well be the most beautiful bulb field in Breda! What a magnificent array of colours!

Backer en Rueb

Cross the Singel and walk towards Terheijdenstraat. Here, walk under the railway, then follow Stationslaan and Speelhuislaan. At the junction of Speelhuislaan and Konijnenberg, by Backer & Rueb, you will also find a beautiful sea of flowers.

Via Belcrumweg and Academiesingel, walk back to Valkenberg Park.

Around Breda’s Ring Canals

Tip! Breda city centre is surrounded by water: the canals. Over the course of several years, Breda City Council is transforming the inner ring of canals into a pleasant walking and running route of around 5.5 kilometres. To make this route more colourful, special bulb mixes have been developed using robust standard varieties, supplemented with additional colours. Each section, between two bridges, has its own additional colour. As a nod to Breda’s royal Nassau past, these are gold, white, blue and orange.
