From 13 September to 3 November 2024, BredaPhoto transforms the city of Breda into a large stage for photography and video. This photo festival is a fun outing for the whole family. The theme is Journeys, travel in the broadest sense of the word; physical journeys, holidays, family visits, and imaginative dream travels. BredaPhoto organises a number of activities especially for children. Discover five fun things to do together with children.

1. BredaPhoto treasure hunt

The children’s treasure hunt is more than just looking at photos. It is an interactive exploration along the locations Carré Chassé, 't Zoet, and the Backer + Ruebhal.

While children go on adventures and complete tasks, they also learn about photography, visual language, and how to express their own creativity.  At the end of each location, they earn a nice stamp in their Journeys passport. Have all the stamps collected? Then they are officially ‘travellers’ of the BredaPhoto Festival.

The Journeys passport, the BredaPhoto treasure hunt, is available for € 1,50 at the Explore Breda Store or in the festival shop at Carré Chassé.

2. Family activities at Nieuwe Veste

The Nieuwe Veste has come up with many fun and creative BredaPhoto activities for children. What is on the agenda?

  • Greenscreen
In the makersbase of the Nieuwe Veste, a Greenscreen with props is available on various Saturday afternoons that you can use to create a creative photo.
  • Stopmotion workshop themed around travel (Sign up in time!)
Here, you will work together in the makersbase to create an amazing stopmotion film.
  • Individual travel stories
A storyteller shares travel stories. Both fictional and classical tales from antiquity in which the gods go on a journey will be featured.
  • Comic drawing workshop: Adventure travels (Sign up in time!)
With guidance from a comic drawing teacher, you will create a short travel comic story yourself.

3. Boating

Breda from the water is always a good idea, especially during BredaPhoto. Until 5 October, there will be boats operating between the different locations of BredaPhoto on the weekends.  The most fun way to discover BredaPhoto with the whole family.

Hop on at the Haven in the centre of Breda and sail towards 't Zoet and the Backer en Ruebhal.

Have you heard of de Veerman? A floating artwork in the Mark! On 13, 14, and 15 September, it will be dedicated to BredaPhoto. Take the kids to the boarding point and let a boat drop you off at the Veerman. You will need a boat ticket for this.

Would you like to visit the Veerman for free? You can do so on Friday, 13 September, between 17:00 and 19:30. At that time, this artwork will be at the quay of Stadspark t Zoet.

4. Visit the Grote Kerk Breda

The Great Church of Breda has been a house of stories for 750 years. In every corner, there is something to see, and during BredaPhoto, children can really let loose in discovering the Great Church. Not only with a treasure hunt in search of knights and animals. Now they can even take off their shoes! The centuries-old church floor has been transformed into a surprising floor installation with a large red carpet. It’s wonderful to lie back and gaze at the endless ceiling. Or to hop around barefoot. It’s all allowed and permissible. While adults take the interactive tour featuring the work of Brazilian Rosangela Renno, children explore the church from many lying and sitting viewpoints.

5. Film Forest on Location

This is not just any film in the Carré Chassé, but a 3D installation that speaks to you. Walk together with the children through this magical film about the last primeval forest of Europe: the twelve-thousand-year-old Bialowieza forest! This virtual replica of the last remnants of the forest is a masterpiece of digital techniques. A painting of the present day that opens up a conversation about nature. And does your child also want to create such a beautiful forest in the future? The digital techniques used are part of the game course at BUas in Breda.
