BredaPhoto and Pride Photo are joining forces to pay tribute to the life stories of queer individuals who choose to go against the tide and follow their own path, even if that is sometimes at a later stage in life. Featuring five impressive photo projects by international creators, new work from photographic talents, and an outdoor exhibition, BredaPhoto aims to inspire a wide audience, queer individuals, and allies, and to celebrate our shared diversity. Lifelines will be on display throughout November.

Main exhibition and participation project with Bredanaars in club premises

In Community Lounge you will discover five exceptional photography projects by international creators, each capturing the theme of identity in their own unique way. Julie Sundberg shares stories of her 35-year friendship with Australian drag performer Danny Abood, while Andrés Gregorio Pérez, alongside like-minded individuals, reimagines old family albums to better see themselves in their own history.
Chiara Fabbro pays an intimate tribute to Dimitri, who finally found the freedom to truly be herself after losing her parents. And with a healthy dose of humour and sharp critique, Mackenzie Calle exposes the exclusion of queer astronauts within NASA.

Additionally, there is a special project by a collective of six German photographers who collaborated with eight queer seniors. For years, many of them kept their identities hidden out of fear of stigmatisation. Through this project, their life stories finally receive the platform they deserve.

Especially for Levenslijnen, this project continued in Breda: five young photography talents – graduated or still studying at the KABK in The Hague and St. Joost in Breda – portrayed six queer residents of Breda. The outcome: a powerful and moving look at life, love, and freedom in all their forms.

Outdoor exhibition Pride Photo 2025 at Valkenberg

Every year, Pride Photo hosts an open call for photographers from around the world. From the many submissions, an international jury selects the most impressive and moving images, which together form the annual Pride Photo outdoor exhibition.

In November, this traveling exhibition will arrive at the Valkenbergpark City Park, as part of Levenslijnen. For a month, you can walk freely amidst powerful images that tell stories about identity, love, and pride, right in the heart of Breda’s greenery.

The project space of the Chassé Theater

Where photography is central in Clublokaal and the Valkenberg has been chosen for a different layout in the Chassé Theater. Here you embark on a journey through the history of queer culture: from international milestones in the fight for equality, to fun facts about queer life in Breda, illustrated with photos from various archives.

Exhibition of results from the photo comic workshop with Ype Driessen at the Nieuwe Veste

As part of ‘Levenslijnen’, BredaPhoto is organising a special workshop on creating photo comics, taught by Ype Driessen in Nieuwe Veste. The results of this workshop, together with Ype's own work, form the basis of an exhibition at the entrance of Nieuwe Veste.
The theme is the freedom to be yourself.

Ype Driessen started in 2007 with making autobiographical photo comics. He now has a large and loyal group of readers who follow his work via fotostrips.nl and every Saturday in Het Parool. In his photo comics, Ype offers a humorous and relatable view of his daily life – together with his partner, friends, and family.

Collaboration with the literary festival TILT

Levenslijnen is more than narrative photography. BredaPhoto is partnering with the literary festival Tilt. Several writers, including Ludwig Volbeda, are part of a letter-writing project inspired by the characters in Levenslijnen. The results can be seen in the exhibition and will be read aloud by the authors on 20 November at Nieuwe Veste. Scan the QR code in the Clubroom to read these letters. Have you found inspiration to write a letter yourself? You can do so in the reading room on the first floor in the Clubroom.
