Liberation walk through Breda

On 29th October 1944, the Second World War came to an end for Breda. On 5th May, we celebrate the freedom of the whole of the Netherlands. We have created a route of about 2.5 km along the places in the centre of Breda that commemorate the war, especially our Polish liberators.

    You start the walk in Park Valkenberg, at the statue of De Vlucht. It was made by Hein Koreman. Every year on the 4th of May, the remembrance of the dead takes place here.

On October 29, 1944, the Second World War ended for Breda. On May 5, we celebrate the freedom of the whole of the Netherlands. We have created a route of about 2.5 km along the places in the centre of Breda that remind us of the war and especially of our Polish liberators.  

In Breda, you come across a relatively large number of Polish surnames. This stems from Polish soldiers who returned to Breda after the liberation to build a new life here. You can read here why that was.
