Urban Birding Birdwatching excursion at stadspark Valkenberg

Discover the bird species in Breda during the Urban Birding Safari in stadspark Valkenberg.

Information

Even in the city, there are various types of birds to discover, often more than you think! During this Urban Birding Safari in Breda, you will get to know many of them better.

This excursion takes place in stadspark Valkenberg in Breda. This park is located in the city centre of Breda on the main route to Breda Central Station, behind Breda Castle (now the KMA). In the past, the park was the castle's garden.

In this park, you can spot different types of birds including: the Rose-ringed Parakeet, Greater Canadian Goose, Wild Duck, Woodpigeon, Eurasian Coot, Water Rail, and the Great Spotted Woodpecker.

Various songbirds will sing and sometimes be seen, including: Great Tit, Blue Tit, Winter Wren, Chiffchaff, Treecreeper, Chaffinch, and Starling.

You will practice recognising different bird songs and learn, for example, the difference between the Rook and the Black Crow and the changing plumage of the Herring Gull.

The excursion lasts two hours and is also a very nice gift for (beginner) bird enthusiasts! Do you not have binoculars yet? That’s no problem, you can borrow some. You will go out with guide Puck Ghijsen, who will tell you everything about the birds you encounter.
