Lodewijk @ Bloos

Lodewijk is a intoxicating blend of text, music, and visual art; a theatrical confession and a visual farewell ritual. With a dark sense of humour and just as much sensitivity, Sofie tackles taboos surrounding sex, death, and birth. Vulnerable, passionate, and utterly honest.

Information

Lodewijk tells the absurd story of a woman who suddenly finds herself stuck with a baby on strong spirits. What the fuck?! The baby is called Lodewijk and has been sleeping for fifty years in a glass coffee pot. She knows nothing else. This mysterious baby confronts her with a painful memory: twelve years ago she secretly had an abortion. Face to face with Lodewijk, she realises that this secret wants to come out. In a black comedy, confrontational stream of words, she breaks through her shame, with Lodewijk as a silent opponent.

In her new solo performance, theatre maker Sofie Kramer explores hidden desires and ancient demons. Lodewijk is an exercise in letting go, a hypnotic rite in which life and death dance a tender duet. From a hyper-personal perspective, she asks questions about mourning and the contradictory entanglement of life and death. What does it mean to bring a human into the world? What kind of world on earth puts babies in coffee pots after all? Lodewijk, am I now your mother?

Trigger warning: this performance includes a fetus on strong spirits. It contains nudity and addresses topics such as abortion, sexuality, and death.
