IVN Urban Plants Walk | Spoorpark Breda
Information
The theme of this afternoon is ‘Tracking along the railway: a hidden world’. The walk starts in Breda’s station quarter, where a special urban garden lies behind the courthouse, on top of a multi-storey car park.
The garden was created in 2018 and covers approximately 6,000 square metres. Corten steel and gravel give the garden a robust character that suits the adjacent railway. Wide paths and a lift on Stationslaan make the garden easily accessible.
Various trees and plants grow in the garden, including birch, black locust and Scots pine. There are also many flowers to see, which bloom at different times. They attract bees, bumblebees and other insects. There is even an insect hotel.
During the walk, participants discover which plants and animals can be found in the garden. The guide shows which flowers are currently in bloom, such as Macedonian scabious and hairy willowherb. This is how we discover this hidden corner of Breda together.
