Big parade in ut Kielegat (Breda)

The carnival parade in Breda is a spectacle full of colour, music, and joy. During this parade on the Monday afternoon of carnival, decorated floats, exuberantly dressed groups, and music bands travel through the streets of the city.

Information

Residents of Breda, also known as 'Kielegat', let their creativity run wild with themes that often humorously play on current events. The parade is a highlight of the carnival season and attracts thousands of visitors from Breda and far beyond. The festive atmosphere, combined with the unique Breda carnival culture, makes it an unforgettable experience for everyone celebrating.

This year the organizations changed a few things.

Departure
The parade starts at the Haagdijk. The Prince's float leads the way and 'parks' at the Markendaalseweg near the wheelchair platform. All participants in the parade pass by the prince and his entourage to showcase their act, float, or costume. As the finale, the prince's float then joins to the final destination.

This year, the route will not pass through Ginnekenstraat. Instead, it will turn off Karnemelkstraat towards Markendaalseweg and then turn left towards Van Coothplein. This eliminates the always difficult turn from Ginnekenstraat to Van Coothplein.

The prize winners will be announced on the platform at the Spanjaardsgat.

The parade is accessible to everyone

Everyone is welcome at the Grand Parade. The Kielegat foundation pays attention to people who need additional provisions to be able to attend the parade. This makes carnival accessible for everyone.

  • At the Markendaalseweg, there is a wheelchair platform, a seating tribune, and accessible toilets. There is also a pick-up and drop-off service.
  • At the Markendaalseweg, in the direction of the Van Coothplein a low-stimulus area has been created.
