Do you dream of creating your own game? Or do you want to venture into creative technology, such as AI? Perhaps you are about to graduate in Visual Arts, Game Design & Production, or Programming, and you are wondering: what is the next step? Then B’GAME Incubator in Breda might be exactly what you're looking for. In a city where game talent, technology, and creativity come together, young creators have the opportunity to further develop their ideas and take the first steps towards their own project and business. We spoke with Laura from B’GAME Incubator about how they help new talent grow.

First things first: what is B’GAME Incubator?

B’GAME Incubator is a startup hub for game studios in Breda and is part of the city’s Innovation District. In this area, companies, educational institutions, startups, and creative hubs (including B’GAME) collaborate closely. Together, they form an ecosystem where technology, creativity, and entrepreneurship reinforce each other. At the same time, it is a place where more than just working happens: you can also learn, live, meet, and relax. It is precisely that combination that makes the area so dynamic.

The incubator opened its doors in November 2024 and is now fully booked. Currently, 17 studios are taking their first steps in the game industry. From entertainment games to serious games, esports, and creative tech: the community is a mix of creators with different ideas, styles, and ambitions. But B’GAME is more than just a place to work. Of course, as a game developer or creative tech-maker, you get your own workspace to build your startup. Yet, according to Laura, it’s about much more than that. “We combine workspaces with targeted support, a strong network, access to the market, and strategic help. This not only helps individual studios grow, but also strengthens the entire ecosystem.”

Why does Breda have an incubator for the game industry?

For those who didn't know: Breda is overflowing with creative talent passionate about video games. For instance, Breda University of Applied Sciences offers one of the best game programs in the world, and every year the Dutch Game Week takes place in Breda. An Incubator focused on game studios and creative tech-makers was therefore a logical step according to Laura. “Every year, a large group of creators graduate here. Without a next step, many of them move to other cities or countries. This results in a loss of economic potential, entrepreneurship, and innovative drive for the city. We ensure that talent is not only educated in Breda but that companies can also be established here. In this way, we strengthen employment, innovation capability, and the profile of the Innovation District.”

We ensure that talent is not only trained in Breda but also that companies can be built here.

Success in development

Although B’GAME is still young, the impact is already visible. The fact that the incubator is fully occupied within a short period with 17 studios demonstrates that the demand is high. Laura explains: “Success for us is not only in turnover or investments. It's in growth. For example, when a graduation project develops into a registered studio with an initial commercial release. Or when a team connects with investors or establishes important collaborations through our network.”

Also, the community is growing rapidly. The monthly networking drinks attract on average around 100 visitors: creators, students, investors, and industry professionals. This shows that a game community is truly forming in Breda.

How to participate?

Breda's talent can register via the B’GAME website. The incubator assesses the project's stage, the team's ambition, and growth potential. This could be a student with a strong prototype, but also an emerging studio looking to scale. As we are currently full, we are carefully monitoring new intake and future expansions. But we always stay in touch with talent.

Additionally, interested individuals are welcome at the monthly networking drinks to get to know the community.

Overview of the Future

The ambition of the B’GAME Incubator goes beyond guiding individual startups. The dream is for Breda to be recognized nationally and internationally as a strong game and creative tech city. With the Innovation District, the city is focusing on an ecosystem where startups grow into scale-ups and where successful studios reinvest in new talent. Once this catalyst is running, a sustainable gaming climate will emerge from which the entire city benefits.

With 17 game studios, a growing network, and strong collaborations since its opening in November 2024, B’GAME is well on its way to playing a key role in Breda as a true gaming city.
