Guided tours and Grote Kerk climb Gilde de Baronie

Would you like to discover Breda with a guide? Experienced guides from Gilde de Baronie will take you on a tour and tell you the most beautiful stories about Breda. You can even visit the Kasteel van Breda with them! Feel like climbing? Go up the tower of De Grote Kerk with the guide to enjoy the beautiful view over the city and the surrounding area.

Tower Climb De Grote Kerk Breda

Whichever way you approach Breda, the slender tower of tDe Grote Kerk looms over everything at 97 metres. A guide from the Gilde de Baronie will take you up to a height of 60 metres. It's quite a climb, but you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking view over Breda and, on clear days, far beyond.
Along the way, you'll pass by, among other things, the impressive bells that are still manually rung regularly by the Bellringers' Guild and the carillon that chimes every quarter of an hour.
For safety reasons, the minimum age for tower climbs is 12 years old.

    Tour of Kasteel van Breda

Het Kasteel van Breda, once the ancestral seat of the first Nassaus, is now military terrain. For almost two hundred years, the Royal Military Academy has been located here. For this reason, it is only very limitedly open to the public. Only the Gilde de Baronie is allowed to provide guided tours on the castle grounds. And only on Saturdays when there are no military activities.

    City walk through Breda

The many beautiful monuments of Breda take centre stage in this guided tour by the city guides of Gilde de Baronie. But the guide also doesn't skip over modern landmarks.

Breda was granted city rights in 1252 and was the court city of the first Dutch Nassaus in the 15th and 16th centuries. From that prosperous period originate important monuments such as the Grote or Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk, the Kasteel van Breda, Spanjaardsgat, Het Begijnhof, De Waalse Kerk, and a number of court houses.

The guide also shows you modern Breda and provides you with interesting background information. Old and new in harmony. In Breda, we love contrasts.

Tour of Kasteel Bouvigne and the gardens

On the edge of the Mastbos forest lies a charming little castle with three gardens in French, English, and German styles: Bouvige. Every last Friday of the month, you can join a guided tour of the castle, followed by a tour of the unique gardens.

    Tour along the Nieuwe Mark

The new urban river, the Nieuwe Mark, reduces heat stress and brings water, greenery and biodiversity back to the concrete-bound city centre. The quay walls are designed to allow trees to take root and plants to sprout.

The tour takes in gems from the past such as the Spanjaardsgat, old patrician houses and breweries along the Nieuwe Mark. Old buildings that have been given new uses include the Koeharentapijtfabriek (now studio and living space), the Groot Arsenaal (de Rooi Pannen) and the Franciscan convent (now the five-star Hotel Nassau Breda).
