Turfstekers Redoute - Groene Camino location
In the Middle Ages, De Vucht was a peat bog. From 1300 onwards, various waterways were constructed to drain the peat so it could be cut and transported.
Once dried, the peat was sold in the form of blocks of turf as fuel. Turf was the main source of fuel here for a long time.
Due to the excavation of the peat, the Vuchtpolder gradually became lower-lying, and a water body formed. With the pumping out of the water, the current polder was created, where now nature-inclusive farming takes place.
A redoubt is oroginally a military fortification from the Eighty Years' War.
