The Holy Oak - Groene Camino location
The Holy Oak is probably the oldest tree in the Netherlands.
Holy Oaks stood everywhere along pilgrimage routes. Pilgrims would gather under such trees. During these meetings, they shared all sorts of romanticized stories.
The tree in Den Hout is estimated to be 750 years old. The tree bears scars, holes, and cracks, partly caused by a lightning strike approximately 200 years ago. Only one branch remained alive and now forms a complete crown on its own. A sign of great vitality or ......?
Groene Camino
This location is part of the Groene Camino, a nature and cultural-historical walk through Breda. The walk is 26 km long and runs from the Heilige Eik in Den Hout through the centre of Breda to the Sint Jacobskapel in Galder.
