Moby Dick - Groene Camino location

In 1981, the Ginneken neighborhood in Breda was visited by a stranded seal. This adventurer attracted much attention and later even received its own little statue.

In the waters around Breda you can find a rich flora and fauna. But in 1981, a little seal visiting the city was a big surprise. A rowboat in the Mark became its resting place.
With much attention from the neighbors, he was named ‘Moby Dick’. Unfortunately, seals do not have a future in freshwater. Therefore, he was captured and transferred to the seal nursery in Pieterburen. Later, he was released into the Wadden Sea.

Breda resident Piet van den Broek created a statue of Moby Dick.
