Kapucijnenhof

Before a Capuchin monastery was established at this location, Charles d’Héraugière, commander of the famous Breda turf boat, lived here. Since the beginning of this century, you can find a charming residential enclave here.

The list with the turf ship is known as the Breda Trojan Horse. It is the year 1590. Breda is occupied by the Spaniards and Prince Maurice van Nassau wants to retake Breda with a surprise attack. Because skipper Adriaan van Bergen regularly brings turf inside the castle gate, his ship is no longer checked. Led by Charles d’Héraugière, 75 soldiers are smuggled in who overwhelm the enemy.
