Blind Wall: De Vlucht van Breda - TelmoMiel

This wall mural by TelmoMiel is inspired by the Flight of Breda in 1940. Due to the threat of Breda being caught in the midst of the war, 50,000 residents of Breda were evacuated at the time.

Ultimately, the evacuation turned out to be unnecessary because Breda was taken by the Nazis without much force. However, over a hundred people lost their lives along the way due to shootings and a bombing.

The Blind Wall was inspired by the story of Willem de Kok from Breda. He fled with his wife and children via the Sint Niklaas route to the south. When they wanted to spend the night in a school, they arrived there at the same time as a man and a donkey. The donkey protested vehemently and did not want to go to the school. Willem decided to play it safe and go somewhere else. Not long after, the school was bombed.

The artist duo TelmoMiel consists of Telmo Pieper and Miel Kruzmann.
