Work period for third-year students

From 18 May to 21 June, IDFX welcomes five duos from the Art & Research program at AKV|St. Joost, each for a one-week work period.

Information

During these weeks, students have the freedom to use the space at their own discretion for research, experimentation, and the development of new work.

18–24 May Dani & Merijn
Dani Vos and Merijn Althof work from chaos in the daily to a structured whole. Grocery shopping, mopping the floor, folding laundry, and rinsing dishes. The image shifts, stacks, falls, moves, pauses, accumulates, and slides away again. Neatly tidied up.

25–31 May Robin & Ivy
Robin Huizenga and Ivy van den Kieboom have been involved in each other's artistic practices for quite some time. They share a fascination with the morbid, corporeality, religion, and femininity. They often use blood and flesh in collaboration with delicate fabrics. This manifests as installations, video works, or performances.

1–7 June Dana & Ted
Coffee & Tea: a place where attention is given to what we do, want, and to each other. Ted van de Ven and Dana Wijnen take the time and capture moments. In the in-between space — with the working title Coffee & Tea — slowing down, seeking connection, and creating space without judgment take place. Experiments are conducted within these spaces to serve delay and connectedness. Besides collective moments, Ted and Dana work on their own artistic practices. Ted's practice begins with exploring the theme of identity and aims to visualize the inner life. Dana is fascinated by shadows, glimmers, and reflections, which she captures through handcraft.

8–14 June Jane & Margriet
The collective CFT bv (Jane Wildschut and Margriet Brekelmans) will calculate the space. They play with the relativity of measurement and strive for inefficiency (as resistance). Here, the metric system is playfully challenged! How long is the space in [X]? What is the average length of a [X]? What is the range of a given amount of [X]? How long does measuring the space take in time? At what speed is the space measured in [X]? What is the mass of the space expressed in [X]? X = object

15–21 June Dorrith & Giuseppe
During the work period at IDFX, Dorrith van der Bijl and Giuseppe Willemsen realize an installation exploring a sober form of romance through the creation of a Dutch-language opera. The collaboration arises from an interaction between Giuseppe's musical and performative practice and Dorrith's (anti)monumental approach. From libretto fragments, a constellation emerges in which music and space simultaneously take shape and question each other. The opera moves between the heroic and the banal, where grand emotion and sobriety relate to each other. Go away, o Rolex! Go under, fountain! Go under, promise! At dawn, I will win! Will I win! Will I win!
