Wine Festival Ontkurkt Breda 2025

Due to its great success, Wijnfestival Ontkurkt is returning to ’t Zoet in Breda this year — bigger, more diverse, and with even more to taste, discover, and experience.

Information

Due to last year's overwhelming success, Wijnfestival Ontkurkt is returning to ’t Zoet in Breda. Among the growing number of wine festivals in the Netherlands, Ontkurkt occupies a unique position.

‘We attract a broader audience,’ says organiser Maartje Dimmers. ‘We do this with a very diverse selection of wines, music, and from this edition onwards, also a number of masterclasses.’ Dimmers has been active in the wine trade for 15 years and has built an impressive network of wine producers and wineries over the years. Last year, she and Tom Cosijn—who is well known in the region as organiser of the Hop On Hop Off beer festival—decided to bring some of these together at a festival at ‘t Zoet, the former CSM site in Breda. It was an immediate hit, with visitors praising the accessible atmosphere and the surprisingly broad range of wines.

Broad and special wine assortment Dimmers and Cosijn are organising Ontkurkt this year at the same location, and have expanded the festival significantly. This means even more wineries presenting their products. There are natural wines, organic and vegan options, and bottles from the Maghreb, Spain, Australia, Portugal, Italy and Champagne, among others. A vintner from Bordeaux will bring exclusive wines from the higher segments.

This year, there is also a strong focus on local entrepreneurs: multiple Breda wine shops will showcase their selection. ‘I find it important that there is something to taste for every palate and every budget,’ explains Dimmers, highlighting the diverse range of wines. ‘Meeting, discovering, and enjoying are central themes.’ The festival grounds will also feature several food trucks and a bar for those who prefer beer or a refreshing drink.

New: music quiz and masterclasses
This year, the interactive music quiz on Sunday afternoon is a new feature. Use your knowledge of various music genres to fill your bingo card and win beautiful wine prizes! Additionally, visitors can sign up for various masterclasses, focusing on in-depth knowledge of specific wine regions.

The musical accompaniment, as last year, will be provided by DJ School International Breda, which offers a platform for aspiring—often slightly older—DJs and provides a spectacular closing for each festival day. Thanks to the larger layout of the festival, the dance floor will be even bigger this year. Sustainability remains an important focus, with the introduction of a reusable festival wine glass among other initiatives.

‘Breda is a city of gourmets, it was high time for a good wine festival,’ says Dimmers. ‘Last year already showed how enormous the demand was; this year, we hope to welcome at least as many guests again.’
