When Chueca Dies + Q&A director | Chassé Cinema
Information
The documentary Chueca by Ramón Gieling depicts a portrait of a special district in Madrid, which has been regarded since the 1990s as a haven for the LGBTQIA+ community. In the film, local residents speak out, from trans people and drag queens to lesbian couples and refugees, living in a neighbourhood where freedom and diversity are under pressure.
At the heart of the film is Radio Chueca Libertaria, broadcast from the well-known Berkana Bookstore. Here, changes in the district are discussed, as well as broader challenges facing the LGBT movement worldwide. The film shows how residents deal with political headwinds and how they make their voices heard.
After the screening, there will be a Q&A with director Ramón Gieling
