Universal Language is an absurd, surrealistic comedy that connects contemporary Winnipeg, Canada, with 1990s Tehran. Wes Anderson meets Abbas Kiarostami in Matthew Rankin's tribute to Iranian cinema, which artfully weaves dream and reality together.


This film is part of the 'Previously Unreleased' series. These films were shown at prominent festivals both domestically and internationally but did not reach Dutch cinemas. Unfairly so, and therefore this summer a special selection of films from international festivals will be screened at Chassé Cinema. 


This is organised by Chassé Cinema in collaboration with EYE Filmmuseum. The other films and dates are:
