Two presentations on Bredaa's heritage from the 12th and 20th centuries.
Heritage and historical society Breda en Ommeland is organizing two lectures on various heritage sites in Breda.
Information
- Ancient city archaeologist Guido van den Eynde tells about what we know regarding the 12th-century Castellum de Breda. Around 1198, Godfrey of Schoten, the then lord of Breda, handed over the castellum de Breda to the Duke of Brabant. Little is known about this early fortification, which was the predecessor of the late medieval castle of Breda that stood on the grounds of the Royal Military Academy.
- Frans Gooskens discusses the development of various smaller and larger shopping centres in Heusdenhout and Brabantpark during the '50s, '60s, and '70s of the last century. Important Breda architects such as Bernard Oomen and Jan van Poppel designed shopping centres and shopping arcades. How future-proof were their creations?
