Theatre performance - Mirad

Theatre Group Een Betere Wereld performs an intense production MIRAD – not escaped, but blown away. An impactful performance about loss, fleeing, and resilience.

Information

Theatregroup Een Betere Wereld presents under the direction of Patrice Matthee the moving production MIRAD – not fled but blown away on stage at TheatreRuimte DeRuimte in Breda.

A powerful story
The play, based on a text by Ad de Bont, tells the story of MIRAD, a 14-year-old boy who loses everything in the Bosnian war. His family falls apart, his city is besieged, and he eventually ends up as an unaccompanied refugee in the Netherlands. But Mirad decides to return. To search, to understand, and to hold on to hope. Four travellers take the audience into Mirad and his family’s story. The audience sympathises with his fear, sadness, hope and certainly also love.

Compelling and relevant
In a time when refugee stories dominate the headlines, MIRAD manages to touch the audience right in the heart. The piece asks questions that are still relevant: What does war do to people? How do you stay human when everything around you collapses? And how do you start again?

In 2025 we will celebrate 80 years of liberation from the Second World War. In May we remember and we celebrate freedom. The production MIRAD is about the consequences of war, about having to flee and about displacement. Themes that, unfortunately, are still very much present today. Addressing these themes emphasises how valuable it is to live in freedom.

This production is made possible in part with the support of the municipality of Breda.
