The Bony King of Nowhere in MEZZ

After the successful ‘Silent Days’ followed a long period of creative drought for Vanparys, during which he wondered if he still had anything to say at all. Five years passed, with COVID-19 as one of the reasons, but mainly a deep inner struggle. Nevertheless, he gradually found his voice again, resulting in ‘Everybody Knows’, a record that further builds on the musical fault line of ‘Silent Days’. With new instrumental approaches, less guitar, more piano, and a return to the playfulness and spontaneity of his earlier work.

Where The Bony King of Nowhere used to tell timeless stories, Vanparys deliberately turns his gaze towards today’s world on ‘Everybody Knows’. To the articles in the newspaper, the images on TV and online, to social media that have come to dominate our lives in a short time. Musically, he found support from familiar musicians such as Jasper Hautekiet and Hendrik Lasure, and left room for new influences from among others Vitja Pauwels and Simon Segers.
