For many children, the arrival of Sinterklaas is one of the highlights of the year. This year, the Sint and his Pieten will make a cheerful tour through the city centre, starting from the Grote Markt.

Sinterklaas arrival programme:

• 2 p.m.: Sinterklaas and his entourage start at the Grote Markt for a route through the city centre. This route runs via Reigerstraat, Havermarkt, Visserstraat, Lange Brugstraat, Karrestraat, Eindstraat, Houtmarkt, Halstraat, Veemarktstraat and Grote Markt.

• From 2 p.m.: entertainment on the Grote Markt.

• Approximately 3.30 p.m.: Sinterklaas and his entourage return to the Grote Markt.

• 4 p.m.: Sinterklaas speaks on the steps of the town hall.

• Around 5 p.m.: Closing. Children put their shoes out at home.

During the parade, there will also be a gluten-free Piet, who can be recognised by his baker's outfit and “Gluten-free Piet” sign.

Halstraat is a low-stimulus zone where the music Pieten take it easy.

A sign language Piet on the steps of the Grote Markt will translate the speeches given by Sinterklaas and the mayor.
