Rivierreizigers with Q&A at Filmhuis Botanique
Information
About the film
A road that leads through trauma, loss, and grief to the beaches of the Waal and the river travellers she encounters there. It is a story of bending towards the small and of the insight that tomorrow can be different from today. By carefully washing the shards she finds, space is created for softening her own brokenness. The film was produced by Barbara van den Bogaard (UmaMedia).
Mother’s Healing
Mother’s Healing was an emergency accommodation and maternity clinic in Breda, founded in 1915 by the Saint Magdalena Foundation and the Roman Catholic Association for the Protection of Girls. It offered shelter to unmarried mothers who, at that time, were considered ‘fallen women’ by society. The house was run by the Little Sisters of Saint Joseph. However, Mother’s Healing became also known for the enforced separation of babies. Unmarried mothers faced intense pressure to give up their child for adoption, often with no further contact possibilities. These practices have led to lifelong trauma for both mothers and children.
