Qui Vive brings light to the darkness

Classical music lovers in Delft and the surrounding area are now familiar with Qui Vive’s concerts: the group of choir singers and orchestral musicians who head to France once a year to immerse themselves in classical music for a week and enjoy a relaxing holiday. Traditionally, the home concerts on the first weekend of September mark the end of the summer tour. Qui Vive consists of amateur and (semi-)professional musicians, led by Ad van Unen, a music teacher and choir conductor in Delft and Breda. The bond that has developed over the years, based on their shared love of music, is reflected in the quality of their performances.

This year’s programme is entitled LUMINOSITÉ. In these dark times, characterised by countless threats of war, it is difficult but necessary to keep believing in a better world, to continue seeing the light. In the words of the apostle John: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” Alongside Bach’s Magnificat, the programme includes Ruggieri’s Gloria, Mahler’s song “Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen” and Rautavaara’s “Les Cieux Inconnus” in an arrangement for wind instruments. In Vivaldi’s Summer, which received an enthusiastic response in France, soloist Emmy Storms shines.
