Men's choir of Vocaal Breda brings English choral tradition to life with Evensong at Zandberg58

The gentlemen of Vocaal Breda will provide a heartfelt Choral Evensong at Zandberg58, the former Sacraments Church on Zandberglaan in Breda.

Information

An Evensong is an age-old musical tradition from the Anglican church, where prayer, choral singing, and silence alternate. The combination of male voices (Alto, Tenor, Bass) pairs excellently with the magnificent acoustics of Zandberg58, which boasts an impressive organ.

The Evensong is conducted by conductor Ruben de Grauw. Jelena Basova plays the organ, and the officiant is Ad van Kuyk. During the service, works by Thomas Tallis, Herbert Sumsion, Roland Ashfield, Orlando di Lasso, and W.H. Ferguson can be heard. With pieces including If ye love me, Magnificat in G, and Super Flumina Babylonis, Vocaal Breda brings the English choral sound to Breda.

The men of Vocaal Breda have extensive experience with this tradition. In 2024, the choir performed at Lincoln Cathedral in England, and in 2026, a series of performances is planned in South English cathedrals, including Westminster Abbey. The Evensong lasts about an hour and offers visitors a moment of calm, beauty, and reflection in the heart of the city.
