On Sunday 21 September 2025, on World Alzheimer’s Day, the documentary Mama is a Portrait will premiere at Chassé Cinema in Breda. Filmmaker Josefien van Kooten takes you on an intimate and visually powerful journey about her mother, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Through filming, drawing, and interviewing her, Josefien tries to gain a grasp on who her mother was and who she is becoming.
The film offers a touching insight into the evolving relationship between mother and daughter and highlights the often unprepared role of carers. After the screening, there will be an opportunity for everyone to engage in a discussion with the director.
