Nevertheless, the (Western and particularly American) image of Iran as a ‘source of terrorism’ and a prominent member of the ‘Axis of Evil’ is too one-dimensional. &nbsp; Paul Aarts taught international relations and Middle Eastern studies at the University of Amsterdam for over thirty years. During that time, he set up the student exchange programme ‘Zeytun’ with partners in Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Syria, and Morocco.He is regarded as an expert in the field of the Middle East, specifically Iran and Saudi Arabia. He has visited these countries regularly.
