Lecture Gilde de Baronie: The choir stalls of the Grote Kerk Breda
Using images, Jan Korebrits explains the significance of the woodcarvings that are placed beneath the choir stalls of the Grote Kerk Breda.
Information
The choir stalls of the Grote Kerk Breda provide a unique insight into the period in which they were created: around 1450.
The woodcarvings beneath the seats essentially form a documentary of what Bredenaars historically considered good or bad, what they believed in, their social manners and occupations, the animals they found remarkable, the proverbs and sayings they used, and… not to forget, what made them laugh and what they mocked.
During the lecture and image presentation, Jan Korebrits will show all the images of the choir stalls, explaining their meanings and backgrounds.
