Lecture Conductor and orchestra
Information
Nothing of Reede, former flautist in the Concertgebouw Orchestra, has spent many hours on stage with the greatest conductors: from Giulini, Bernstein and Jochum to Dorati, Haitink, Davis, Kondrashin, etc.
In this lecture he talks about the relationship between conductor and orchestra. You will find answers to questions like: What does a conductor actually need to be able to do for an orchestra? Is there a power dynamic between a conductor and an orchestra? Is a conductor really necessary for an orchestra? Is there a difference between a man or a woman conducting an orchestra?
For example, Rien talks about Bernstein who first conducted a scale with the whole orchestra to break the tension; about Gardiner who had an argument with the first violins after fifteen minutes; about Haitink who wondered whether conducting was truly a profession; about Toscanini who insulted a bass section and how orchestra members can sometimes take revenge on a conductor.
Let yourself be carried away by his enthusiastic story!
