Lecture Chopin

During this lecture, Polish history, Polish culture, and the exceptional life of the composer come together.

Information

Was it the love for his homeland Poland or the love for those he had to leave behind? Both matters have had an unmistakable influence on his works.

Nostalgia, melancholy, longing, combative spirit, rebellion… these are emotions we recognize in his music but also in the exile he was. It made Frydryk a national hero of Poland.

Various piano works will be explained within these contexts and performed live. Roel Noga studied at the Brabant Conservatory School of Music. He initially worked as a teacher and choir conductor.

After a career switch to the Education Inspection Service, the Ministry of Justice and Security, and subsequently as director for education for detainees, he has been associated with the Maczek Memorial Breda as a retiree. His father fought as a Polish soldier under General Maczek and was unable to return to his homeland after the war. This experience as an exile, similar to Chopin’s, inspired Roel to this piano presentation.
