What if you were deaf in a world where everything revolves around music? The neglected boy Kolja cannot hear or speak. But when the composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and his brother Modest take him under their wing, Kolja discovers that there is richness in being different. Meanwhile, the musical brothers struggle to be themselves in a world that does not accept their homosexuality.

Dramatic arias and celebratory choral scenes make everyone’s inner struggle and resilience palpable in this true story.

With topical themes such as inclusion, LGBTQIA+ emancipation and accessibility, KOLJA is an opera for our times.
