Johannes Passion by the Bach Choir Brabant
Information
The Bach Choir Brabant, conducted by Geert van den Dungen, collaborates in this concert with the professional baroque orchestra Eik en Linde that plays on historical instruments, or copies thereof.
About the Johannes Passion
Bach wrote his first version of the Johannes Passion in 1724. On April 7 of that year, the work was performed for the first time in Leipzig. The Bach Choir Brabant performs the fourth and final version from 1749 of this masterwork. In this version, Bach himself added various ornamentations and small additions, which made this Passion even more balanced.
The Johannes Passion is known for its short, intense choral sections with a strong sense of the dramatic storyline, beautiful arias, and well-known chorales.
About the soloists
The solo team consists of young, talented, international vocalists: Adriaan De Koster (tenor/Evangelist), Wessel Wirken (bass/Christ), Nikki Treurniet (soprano), Oscar Verhaar (countertenor), Riccardo Lucas Hernández (tenor/arias), Robert-Jan Agricola (bass/arias).
