IVN Village Plant Walk Terheijden

Discover the early spring flora with an exciting walk through Terheijden. Beautiful nature moments await you!

Information

Saturday 25 April, the nature guides of IVN Mark & Donge will walk through Terheijden in search of early spring plants.

To see early bloomers, you don’t necessarily have to go to a nature reserve. Sometimes very interesting plants emerge around drains and lampposts or between paving stones. Moreover, in towns and villages it is always a bit warmer than in the countryside. This results in plants flowering earlier.

Sometimes, specimens appear that originally did not occur in our areas but have been unintentionally carried along by holidaymakers, either in camping gear or in car tires.

The first flowering plant has not been named for nothing: it loves spring. When we start to get enough of the cold and darkness, it can suddenly appear, between the stones in the street, on an old wall around the church, bringing us the good news that spring is on its way.

In April, it is no longer just the first flowering plant that blooms. Also, deadnettle, comfrey, and other plants bring some colour back. And that’s a good thing, because many birds return after a winter in the south. They need food, but the protein-rich insects they seek during this time of year also need to be found somewhere.

Be surprised by what nature can be found on parking lots, in gutters, and between the stones in Terheijden.

Registration is possible until the day of the walk. After registering, you will receive information about the starting point.
