IVN Poetry Walk Goudbergven, Strijbeek

Join the IVN Mark & Donge nature guides for a poetic walk through a special nature reserve.

Information

The Goudbergven is called by some the most beautiful pond of Brabant. You walk here through a nature reserve that leaves a strong impression.

During the walk, a poet is occasionally given the floor to write about natural phenomena visible along the way. It is a small but special nature area, situated between the Strijbeekse Heide and the valley of the Strijbeekse Beek.

The pond is surrounded by a horseshoe-shaped drifting dune, a so-called parabola dune. In the middle lies a raised bog island, a floating island that moves with the water level.

In the 1950s, there were plans to transform this area into agricultural land. The dune would be excavated and the pond dammed. Several nature enthusiasts opposed this, after which Staatsbosbeheer was able to purchase the area and the nature has been preserved.

Around the pond, there is a forest with both deciduous and coniferous trees. Shrubs such as sporkehout and gagel grow here, as well as plants that deserve protection. Waterfowl, including the tufted duck and the black-throated loon, are regularly seen here.

Registration is possible up to the day of the walk. After registering, you will receive information about the starting point. More information and the registration form can be found on the IVN Mark & Donge website under Activities.
