IVN Night Butterfly Night Oranjepolder, Oosterhout
Information
At 19:30, three presentations will start about moths, bats, and hedgehogs. From 21:00 onwards, there will be a bat walk, moth viewing on a sheet and smear, and a visit to the hedgehog station.
The Netherlands has over 2,400 butterfly species, of which only 53 are day butterflies. Many moths are also active during the day, while others are attracted to light. During this night, you will learn how to distinguish between day and night moths.
Bats are the only flying mammals. In the Netherlands, eighteen species live here, hunting insects at night using sonar. Their sounds can be made audible with a bat detector. The hedgehog is also mostly active at night. With its sharp nose and good hearing, it searches for food such as worms, slugs, and insects.
Equipped with a flashlight, participants will search for moths. Additionally, moths are lured with light and scent substances in the orchard.
