IVN Nature Walk | Wolfslaar

During this nature walk, you will explore with the IVN Mark & Donge guides to discover what plants offer us.

Information

During this walk through the beautiful park and nature garden of Wolfslaar, the emphasis is less on the cultivation of flowers and plants, and more on the various uses of them. When the willow begins to bloom, spring is on its way. The catkins are wonderful to see and form an important food source for the first insects to reappear.

In addition, the shrub offers many other possibilities. Willow rods can be used to make attractive, natural fences. Due to their flexibility, they are also excellent for weaving mats or baskets.

The rustling of the slender reed is calming, and the plant provides shelter for various birds. After mowing, reed can even be used as roofing material.

A flax field in spring is a feast for the eyes with its fine blue flowers. Later in the year, birds benefit from the seeds. After harvest, linseed is made from flax, a fabric that is comfortable to wear in the summer. The bark of the lime tree can also be used for clothing, as well as fibers from hemp and stinging nettle. There are many more examples of how plants are used by humans. The guides will tell you extensively about this during the walk.

Registration is possible until the day of the walk. After registration, information about the meeting point will follow
