IVN Nature Walk Markdal
Information
Markdal
The landscape of the Markdal is a typical stream valley landscape, with a meandering stream originating from a river, with marshy banks. At various locations along the banks, higher sand mounds, known as dikes, are present. In the 1960s and 1970s, the Mark was canalised to allow for faster water drainage. This was beneficial for agriculture, but not for nature. At the beginning of the 21st century, a decision was made to restore the natural course of the Bovenmark.
Bieberg
Around 2004, Meanders were reintroduced into the river course in the northern part (Bieberg). The weir at Koekelberg will be removed, creating a marsh area there. The nature reserve is being expanded, and the Brabantse Delta water board aims to improve the ecological water quality, hoping to make the Markdal even more attractive for birds and other animals.
It is recommended to wear boots or waterproof shoes.
Registration is possible until the day of the walk. After registering, you will receive information about the starting point.
