IVN Nature Walk Landgoed Oude Buisse Heide
Information
On Sunday, 16 November, the nature guides of IVN Dintel- en Marklanden and IVN Mark en Donge will organise a special walk around the estate of de Oude Buisse Heide. This nature reserve of 201 hectares, owned by Natuurmonumenten, is located near Achtmaal in the municipality of Zundert. It is renowned for its tranquillity and beauty, famously described by one of its most well-known residents: “A place so lovely, peaceful, and idyllically charming that every person who comes there is touched by its silent, joyful harmony.”
The Oude Buisse Heide has a rich history. Once, extensive marshlands with thick peat layers stretched here, formed after the last Ice Age. From 1540, peat was harvested, but after the excavation, a barren and desolate landscape was left behind. Today, along the Turfvaart and the Bijloop stream, you can find a varied scenery of forests, heather, ponds, fields, and meadows, surrounded by various country estates.
The estate was once the home of Henriëtte and Richard Roland Holst. Richard was a versatile artist and worked in a reed-covered studio from 1919, a national monument in Amsterdam School style. Henriëtte, a poet and politically active, wrote her poems in a simple tea house overlooking the heath.
The walk starts at 13:30 and lasts until approximately 15:30. Registration is possible until the day of the walk. After registering, you will receive information about the starting point. More information and the registration form can be found on the IVN Mark & Donge website under the Activities section.
