Saturday 24 January, the nature guides of IVN Mark &amp; Donge will walk through forests that are currently undergoing significant change. These forests were planted about a hundred years ago with conifers for timber production. Prior to that, the area consisted of moorlands, small woods, heathlands, and sand drifts. The area was heavily drained at the time through the digging of ditches.In the meantime, insights have changed, and the drying out is being reversed as much as possible. The groundwater level has been raised, causing many conifers to die off. Deciduous trees are gaining new opportunities, and the monotonous, dark coniferous forests are being replaced by a more natural and varied landscape with birches, willows, and alders. Old ponds and ‘goren’ have also been refilled with water, resulting in a rich plant growth that was common in the past.During this excursion, you will wander through a special area where hikers do not have to stick to the designated paths in many places. Please note that after rainfall, the Chaamse Woods can be muddy. Therefore, check the weather forecast and wear appropriate clothing and footwear.You can register up to the day of the walk. After registration, you will receive information about the departure point. The walk starts at 1.30 pm and lasts until approximately 3.30 pm.
