Things are not looking good for insects in the Netherlands, and this is bad news. These small creatures make up a large part of global biodiversity and demonstrate their usefulness in countless ways. They are the cleaners in nature and serve as food for many other animals. Additionally, they play a vital role in human food supply, as they are responsible for the pollination of vegetables and fruit crops. 

We can enjoy the many species of butterflies and dragonflies, but also the paint beetle and the beautiful jewel beetle are wonderful creatures to see. In the Netherlands, six thousand species of wasps are found, including the golden wasp with its striking, metallic, shiny colour. Countless insects captivate us with their beauty.
 
At the Strijbeekse heath, we find not only heather but also bogs and woods. This results in a great variation in vegetation, making the area attractive for a diversity of animals and creatures. This makes it an ideal place for an insect walk. To what extent they will show themselves partly depends on the weather. They are most active when it is warm and sunny. In any case, it will be a beautiful nature walk with attention to these useful and beautiful creatures.
