In the 1950s, a marriage is considered complete only when children are present. So, a child is born, a daughter. But not the girl the parents hoped for, not a child to show off, but rather one to be ashamed of. Her parents are afraid of this unapproachable creature that seems to be of no use to anyone. They do not see how this girl is aware of herself, living in a world for which the instructions are missing.&nbsp;In 'Het scheve meisje' Yvon Né finds words for the way a child between 2 and 11 looks, lives, and feels. A child who interprets the things around her in her own way, to make the world manageable, and in doing so is not understood by her environment.&nbsp; The book is disturbing because it shows how differently people who are distant from each other can perceive reality and how impossible contact and understanding become because of that.&nbsp; In the parent-child relationship, this perspective is new and frightening. A child who is unreachable by their parents, a child who feels they are not meeting their parents' wishes.
