Michiel van de Weerthof is renowned for his playful approach, in which he explores the boundary between art and society by disguising his audio work as journalistic documentary. In this special sound art piece, visitors walk through the park while listening to a montage of historical sources, such as newspapers, council minutes, and personal stories.The result is an 'audio cuttings newspaper' that brings over 135 years of park history to life, allowing the listener to make their own connections. The park, which at first glance seems a peaceful place, is revealed through this audio work to be a dynamic space full of discussions, conflicts, and human stories.“We often think that our current era is uniquely polarised. But delve into the archives or a local park, and you'll find a dry-humoured, timeless repeating pattern,” says Van de Weerthof.ProgrammeThe event starts at 15:00 with an informal picnic at the edge of the park, where you are welcome to enjoy a snack and a drink. Michiel van de Weerthof will talk about the creation process and the research he conducted while developing this sound art piece. Afterwards, you'll walk together to various locations in the park to listen to several audio clips from the collection.Important! — This walk can only be experienced using your own smartphone, headphones or earphones, and an internet connection. Do you need technical support? No problem. There will be assistance on the day of the premiere.From 15:00 onwards, walkers, listeners, and history enthusiasts are very welcome at Wilhelminapark.
