Film course: Book adaptations | Chassé Cinema

This autumn, Rudi de Boer delves into the world of book adaptations with a new course at Chassé Cinema, where he will explore the exciting translation from page to screen on a weekly basis.

Information

From this autumn, film educator Rudi de Boer will return to Chassé Cinema with an in-depth course on book adaptations. Each week will focus on a different theme, examining the relationship between literature and film.

Books have been an inexhaustible source of inspiration for filmmakers ever since the dawn of cinema. However, the comparison between book and film still sparks lively discussion. Is the book always better? And is there such a thing as an unfilmable story? Using film clips, theory, and classics from film history, De Boer explores how directors handle complex storylines, inner monologues, and rich worlds that are hard to capture on screen.

What remains, what is lost, and what creative choices do filmmakers make to translate the magic of the book onto the silver screen?
