About Marielle as an artist
Her works and the way she works. Marielle Schram was born in Eindhoven and studied in the eighties at the Academy for Visual Arts in Tilburg. Afterwards, she led a life that unfolded in various world cities: New York, Mexico City, and ultimately London, where she stayed for nearly three decades.

She drew and painted all the time, taught, exhibited in artist collectives and galleries, sold work to collectors in twelve countries.

The series she created around the theme of the woman at the window - inspired by Edvard Munch, by the old painting tradition of the letter-reading woman, by the border between inner world and outer world - shows that movement most sharply: characters that dissolve into or emerge from the work, depending on the direction you look. The sculptures are new, and they still surprise her. Small in size, made of wire, string, foil, linen, stone, clay – materials that cost nothing and demand everything. Since 2023, Marielle Schram has returned to the Netherlands, based in Breda and partly in Spain.

In June 2026, she will present her first Dutch solo exhibition at the Princenhaags Museum in Breda – a first calling card, as she calls it herself, in a city she is rediscovering.

The first exhibition day is June 4, 2026. The official opening is on Friday, June 5, from 17:00 to 19:00.
