Event program 'Fighting Women, Resilient Democracy'
Information
During the period of 1-15 March, the Maczek Memorial Breda will host an events programme around International Women's Day and the exhibition 'Arm Women Now'. Expect inspiring conversations, lectures, and other activities about, for, and by combative women in various forms.
Topics such as fighting for peace, freedom, security, and a resilient democracy will be discussed. As well as the right to choose who, what, and where you want to be.
- Sunday 1 March, 13:00-17:00: Opening of the Exhibition ‘Arm Women Now’ and the events programme.
With various speakers, a poem by Yvon Né, and musical accompaniment by the Choir 'Tegen de wind mee' - Wednesday 4 March, 19:30-22:30: Discussion evening 'The image of the woman as ‘fighter’: How does that work in the Netherlands, the armed forces, and here in Breda?'
During this evening, we explore the image of women as 'fighters'. Additionally, we look at what happens when women claim their place as fighters.
The evening begins with a historical insight into the integration of women into the Dutch armed forces, the dynamics of masculinity within the military (which confronts both women and men), and a broader perspective on Dutch society.
Following this, we will discuss these topics. Want to join the conversation? Come along. - Thursday 5 March, 19:30-22:00: Screening of the documentary 'Konspirantinnen' (2006, De Samenzweerders).
Documentary about Polish women in the resistance. - Friday 6 March, 19:30-21:00: Lecture by Patrick van Schie ‘The Liberal Fight for Women's Suffrage’
- Sunday 8 March, 13:30-16:00: Discussion afternoon 'Fighting Women in Traditional Male Bastions: Together We Progress'.
During this afternoon, women will share their personal stories and engage in dialogue at the 'Arm Women Now' exhibition, which comes alive with music and poetry. Come and join the conversation. - Wednesday 11 March, 19:30-21:30: Lecture by Lucy Roodbol 'The Philosophy of Luce Irigaray – A Feminist Perspective on Identity and Emancipation'
- Thursday 12 March, 19:00-20:30 (subject to change): Resilience training.
Using role-playing and tips, including recognising danger, we collaboratively develop resilience in a different way. The training is accessible and intended for those aged 16 and older. For more detailed information, check the website.
