Cycling trip to Buitenkamp Moerdijk with Gilde De Baronie (57 km)
Cycle tour led by a guide from Gilde de Baronie to the Buitenkamp near Moerdijk.
Information
This year marks 80 years since the Netherlands was liberated.
When the First World War was drawing to a close, tanks were used for the first time — a deadly vehicle that we all know today. We quickly understood that we needed to be the first to try and stop these vehicles. This was achieved by digging tank traps or anti-tank ditches and other barriers. In many parts of Europe, anti-tank ditches were constructed before the Second World War, including at Moerdijk. Here, Jewish forced labourers and political prisoners had to build these barriers under terrible conditions. The workers came from Kamp Vught and were accommodated in the 'Aussenkommando', the outside camp of Moerdijk.
Together with the guide, you cycle around Moerdijk searching for remnants from that time.
No registration is necessary. You can simply go to the starting point at Intratuin on the Terheijdenseweg.
