Concert Viva Vivaldi

Cantabile Breda opens 2026 with the New Year's concert Viva Vivaldi at Podium Zandberg58.

Information

On Sunday afternoon 11 January 2026, Mixed choir Cantabile Breda, conducted by Gabrielka Clout, will host a festive New Year’s concert at Podium Zandberg58.

The title Viva Vivaldi already hints at the programme: the choir will perform Antonio Vivaldi’s Magnificat and Gloria. Additionally, the programme includes Antonio Lotti’s Laudate Dominum omnes gentes – a true Italian menu.

The aria Where’er you walk from Handel’s opera Semele will also be performed, featuring oboist Charmian Bakker. Soloists are Sang Mee (soprano) and Rosalie Ardts (alto). The instrumental accompaniment will be provided by a 12-piece ensemble and pianist Maurick Reuser on the chamber organ.

About the composers:

  • Antonio Vivaldi, the ‘Red Priest’, composed more than 700 works, ranging from symphonies to concertos and cantatas. He also composed much sacred music, including the Gloria and Magnificat to be performed during this concert.
  • Antonio Lotti was the chapel master and organist at San Marco in Venice. He wrote many operas and church music, of which the Laudate Dominum now receives the attention it deserves.
  • George Frideric Handel may seem like an outsider, but his time in Italy and his inspiration from Italian opera make his music a fitting addition to this programme.
