Concert Lecture: Breda and the Water

Experience this event where lectures and choir singing alternate, all centered around a common theme: Breda and its centuries-long relationship with water.

Information

Canticleer Chamber Choir hosts a special spring concert at the Walloon Church in Breda. Under the title Breda and the Water, the choir presents a concert lecture in collaboration with Marc Cantrijn from bredaenommeland.nl, who will discuss the history of Breda and its relationship with water.

About the event
This event will take the audience on a journey through Breda’s story and its centuries-old relationship with water. From the broad Aa, from which the city derives its name, to the port that once provided a direct connection to the sea. The drainage of the port in the sixties and its reopening in 2007 will also be covered.

Canticleer Chamber Choir performs works from various stylistic periods, ranging from Renaissance polyphony and Baroque music to Romantic and modern compositions. This creates a blend of words and sounds in which water is not only narrated but also made audible.

About Canticleer Chamber Choir
Canticleer Chamber Choir was founded on 8 January 1981 on the initiative of conductor Geert van den Dungen, who still provides artistic direction. The choir mainly focuses on sacred and secular a cappella music from the Renaissance and the 20th century and has built an extensive repertoire over the years.
